Biography: Cynthia Gouw is an accomplished actress, model, spokesperson and emcee. She has reported and anchored for in high profile tv news shows since April 1994. Her reporting earned her multiple Emmy awards for her stories on children in gangs and illegal immigration issues. Her recent reports on environmental and minority affairs earned her two prestigious "Best of the West" awards in a 13-state regional competition. The Society of Professional Journalists of the Central Valley selected Gouw for three top honors for Enterprise, Feature and General reporting. In 1999, Cynthia was in Hong Kong, where she covered the historic hand over to the People's Republic of China.
In 1995, her exclusive reports on racial stereotypes in Bugs Bunny
cartoons
prompted an unprecedented worldwide recall of the offending home videos by
MGM/UA and Warner Brothers.
In addition to her broadcast experience, Cynthia has a background in politics and law. She was an assistant to the Domestic Violence Unit of the Los Angeles City Attorney's office and an assistant to the Speaker, California State Assembly Speaker Willie Brown. Cynthia earned her Juris Doctorate from the U.C.L.A. School of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science/International Relations from U.C.L.A. She was also part of the Oral Advocacy, Moot Court Honors Program during law school. Cynthia is very involved in the local community. She has received several awards for her contributions, including the "Community Service Award" from the Asian Bar Association of Sacramento, and the "Honoree of the Year Award" from the Chinese American Council of Sacramento. Cynthia is a board member for the Asian American Journalist's Association of Sacramento. She has guest starred in TV shows such as 'Matlock' and 'China Beach' and has featured in a number of movies, including "Star Trek 5: The Final Frontier", "Kinjite: Forbidden Subjects" and "Big Man On Campus". |
